Maintenance of FRS Production Tables and Job Control Cards

Introduction

A necessary part of operating the FRS production system is the automated maintenance of Tables and batch job Control Cards through the Scheduling Department. This procedure gives the FRS System Administration staff complete control of submitting Table and Control Card changes without first sending them to a UITS programming staff member. This includes routine DBD changes as well. (It will still be necessary to request that certain batch jobs be added to the daily schedule as indicated in a subsequent section.) A separate procedure, however, pertains to the update of control cards for jobs on the FRS Monthly Schedule. This procedure requires that all Table and Control Card members must be maintained on CMS account CONADM02. After updating the source files on CONADM02, update requests must be sent to the UITS Scheduling Department using the FRSOPT request form.

Control Card and Table Update

FRSUOPT Exec - Introduction

The FRSUOPT Exec gives the FRS System Administrator the ability to update both Control Card and Table members for FRS batch schedule processing.

The FRSUOPT Exec must run from the CONADM02 machine. Control Card member changes (filename OPTION A) and Table member changes (filename TABLE A) are written to the CONADM02 191 disk. When the FRS System Administrator submits the FRSOPT EXEC REQUEST FORM to the UITS Scheduling Department, the scheduler will connect to the CONAMD02 191 disk via the FRSOPT Exec and search for transactions for each option indicated on the form. When the search is successful, a JCL job stream is sent to MVS to update the proper dataset, whether for Control Cards or Tables.

NOTE: The FRSOPT EXEC REQUEST FORM must be sent to the UITS Scheduling Department in order to perform any of the desired changes. This must be done prior to the FRS Nightly Schedule and preferably prior to 12:00 noon.

Accessing the FRSUOPT Exec

In order to be able to access and use the FRSUOPT Exec the following command should be imbedded in the PROFILE EXEC file of the CONADM02 machine:

ACCESS 202 X

This command will attach the STUINFO 202 minidisk as the 'X' disk of the CONADM02 machine in a READ ONLY mode. This mode permits retrieval of Control Card and Table files via the FRSUOPT Exec but prohibits direct update since the 'X' disk is READ ONLY.

How to Use the FRSUOPT Exec

Option 1 - Table Maintenance

This option displays a screen that prompts the user for Table members that are updated by the FRS System Administrator. These Table members are then replaced in the PRO.TABLES library by the UITS Scheduling Department upon receipt of an authorized FRSOPT request form. To update a TABLE member and prepare it for replacement in the Production Table library simply:

  1. Enter the Table member name from the FRSUOPT Panel.
  2. The Table member will be displayed in the XEDIT environment.
  3. Enter the necessary changes.
  4. When finished, file the member on the "A" disk (just type 'file').
  5. Write the Table member name on the authorized FRSOPT request form.
  6. When all Table members have been updated, send the FRSOPT request form to the UITS Scheduling Department.
Option 2 - Control Card Maintenance

This option displays a screen that prompts the user for Control Card members that are updated by the FRS System Administrator. These Control Card members are then replaced in the PRO.CCDLIB library by the UITS Scheduling Department upon receipt of an authorized FRSOPT request form. To update a Control Card member and prepare it for replacement in the Production Control Card library simply:

  1. Enter the Control Card member name from the FRSUOPT Panel.
  2. The Control Card Member will be displayed in the XEDIT environment.
  3. Enter the necessary changes.
  4. When finished, file the member on the "A" disk (just type 'file').
  5. Write the Control Card member name on the authorized FRSOPT request form.
  6. When all Control Card members have been updated, send the FRSOPT request form. form to the UITS Scheduling Department.
Option 3 - A-Disk Housekeeping

Use this option to clean the "A" disk of all CMS files with a filetype of "OPTION" or "TABLE". It is recommended that the user perform this task before running a new series of Control Card/Table member updates (options 1 and 2), and/or after checking the output results of the previous Control Card/Table member update request.

Option 4 - Exit

Use this option to EXIT the FRSUOPT Exec.
